All I remember hearing (and so it's not set-in-stone fact) is that the GS-R's shifter is shorter than an LS's... (Or it could have been the type-R's is shorter than the LS/GS-R)... but yeah... I could conjure that maybe a GS-Rs or Type-R's shifter might be of shorter throw...
