CDMA is Code Division Multiple Access. its just the type of network Sprint have. TDMA = Timed Division Multiple Access ATT has them. TDMA chops the channel into sequential time slices. each user of the channel takes turns transmitting and receiving. only one person is actually using the channel at a given moment.
CDMA lets everyone transmit at the same time.

GSM is a network used by cingular, t mobile and att.
supposidly u can carry over ur number now. but you will have to pay a fee every month. but thats less than a dollar a month
you also forgot the say that CDMA is digital while TDMA is analog which is a big differentiating factor.
but CDMA is pretty much dead anyways
