well i can't speak for racing equipment, but street i can.
if you have custom wheels, go with ceramic pads (trust me, you won't have to clean your wheels every other day), i've gotten 15k out of my raybestos ceramics and i'm still in the first 25% of the pads.
as for rotors, i would highly recommend a rotor which is vented and cross-drilled. the only thing slotting does is reduce the surface area of the rotor (this is very bad, trust me)
also a word of caution about cross-drilled rotors, not all are created equally, i recommend that you stick with a trusted name, like brembo or powerstop
