Default DIY exhaust question

I'm trying to modify an aftermarket exhaust from a gs-r to fit my 92 hatch. Looks like the straight pipe is going to need about a foot and a half extension, and the axle-back part will need about 10" removed right before the muffler. So I was just going to cut it in half, stick in the extra straight pipe extension, an join either end of it back to the exhaust, and with the back, just cut out a 10" part and stick it back together.

My question is, what method can you use to join exhaust pipes other than welding. I could do hose connectors and clamps, but I'm not sure that would be strong enough... what are some other options?
