Yes, it does. If you don't have your car tuned for the turbo you can run lean. If you run lean, you run hot. Another problem is detonation (due to lean conditions, check your A/F ratio), I have seen some people that recommend retarding your timing to also help the whole lean condition situation. Though not all applications call for this tuning, I have heard of it being a problem. Don't take my word for it (what do I know right?). Check this site out:

it's not going to overheat your car that bad, if you run THAT lean you'll blow up your motor from detonation before it dies from overheating.
I ran my car on a fmu with shitty airfuel untuned for 6 months in the texas 100+ degree heat and then i tuned it with an AFC, it made no difference in overheating, i guarantee you it's something else.
