Make sure the parking/emergency brake is off. If the handle is all the way down the light should be off, if not then there is a button under the ebrake handle that you should probably check, maybe something is causing it to be pressed thus the light stays on. To check under the ebrake handle you'd have to remove the center consol. That's just one troubleshooting idea...
