Unless you want to smoke your tires I'd say you've got it about right. (1200 to 2000) Just practice releasing the clutch as smooth as you can. With a little bit of practice you'll get smoother and smoother.
When you start wanting to take off faster (e.g. drag racing) you can raise the rpm's a little higher but don't dump the clutch. Try to ease off of the clutch to control tire spin. It takes practice but it's worth it.
