Change is a beautiful thing isn't it?

We are all use to things a certain way, when things aren't that way, they suck. I think rap has come a long way since the days of the Sugar Hill Gang and the likes. Their raps were about what they were seeing, living, wanting in their era. That's what today's rappers are doing, but have upped their lyrical skills quite a bit since the late 70's, early 80's. I'm not saying every rapper is good, but as a genre, the bar has definitely been raised.

We all know that sales/popularity=meaningful career and financial security. Kinda hard to have good sales if ur records aren't on the radio 20 times a day right? Kinda hard to be popular if nobody knows about you cause you have no marketing push and can't get any air play. Can you really blame these guys for making crossover records and focusing on making hits for the radio? I don't. If anything, I give them props for taking advantage of todays market and doing what needs to be done to get the biggest paycheck. Don't hate.
I have tried to understand rap and I can't. Call me old fashioned but it does nothing for me. I listen to a lot of strange music and if it doesn't sound pleasing to my ears then you aren't impressing me. Same reason I tend to stay away from black/death metal (before you call me racist black metal is essentially very heavy music) because I just don't get it.
