putting rubber caps on give you a glow that's a muted color in other words, a rd cap will give you a faint pinkish red, a blue cap will give you sort of a teal colo, because you also have to factor in what color the buttons or LCD plate is. LEDs give off a pure light in whatever spectrum they are, so they will light up only that color, and it won't be "kind of red, or kind of blue".
