Im not talking shit on hondas because there is a select few that are actually respectable but most of the hondas on the road are riced out and give imports a bad name. Honda motors are def reliable and are geared more toward all motor.....but the reliablility goes out the window once you throw forced induction on. I think you guys need to discuss your own problems with your own cars instead of worring about cars that are out of your league. My 99 GST has about $6500 in performance mods and i havent had any problems.......EVER! Over the winter i am switching to a 1g motor but crankwalk doesnt happen as much as you ppl make it out to be. But back to the question " how do the gsts run" if anyone wants to come find out.....come to belle vernon pa and throw your pink slips out
1) GST is singled out because that's what the post was about. Title of post: "Eclipse GST's run?" ...

2) the GSX drivetrain was crap - I've known five different GSX owners who ALL complained about the CV joints (8 of them) breaking often, at high expense. Let's not even get into the stock transmissions in the AWD cars - most of which die, predictably, after a few high RPM clutch drops.

3) RX-7 motors aren't junk. The wankel rotory is a sweet, reliable, powerful engine... if taken care of. Sure, the oil gets low or the heat gets high, the apex seals will burn up. Same goes for seals on a traditional piston/valve engine. The problem with the RX-7 was an inadequate cooling system, due to the confined space they shoehorned the engine into. The engine itself = fine.

4) Crankwalk is estimated to occur in 10% of all the turbo motors. Like everyone else here, I've known people on stock motors who've suffered it. I've also known people running more boost and tons of mod who don't have it. It's a factory design problem, and not all Eclipses will get it....but lots will. Resources:

Seriously, go check DSM boards.

5) Honda motors are turds out of the factory, eh? Uniformly? Well, I could say the same about DSM motors. Our LX, DX...your RS, GS, Talon Esi, etc. I'm not sure what you think about the H22A, B18C5, F20C, etc. I guess the only companies who don't make turd engines would be, what, Ferrari? Porsche?

6) A stock NSX (n/a)would eat the fastest stock 3000GT (turbo) alive. The NSX itself is not slow. It would have crushed you painfully before your $6500. An "exotic" NSX with $6500 in mods would still crush you painfully - as would any car in that class.

7) Most Hondas are riced out and give imports a bad name? Most Mitusbishis are too! I've seen some atrocious Eclipses (and Galants and Mirages, etc. etc.) which were as bad as any Honda I've seen. Mismatched, unpainted body kits, with broken pieces; flat black painted hood to simulate carbon fiber; aftermarket wheels in front, stocks in back, or the reverse; neon everywhere, in horrible colors; the works. Hondas are just more popular, so you see them more. After F+F, Eclipses became target #1 for ricers because of their affordability.

8) Reliability only goes out the window with forced induction when it's not properly tuned. There are people on this board who've had FI for ages without problems. There people all over who have gone turbo without a problem. It's all about the setup.

9) Out of our league? I imagine you think you're in the top league there is. It'll be interesting when you go again Z06s, Vipers, 911 TTs, 360 Modenas, etc. REAL top-league cars. Man, I really hope DC2 does get out there.

10) Your sad appeal for pink slip races betrays you as yet another ricer who has seen too many movies. What real racers go for pink slips? I'd love to see Michael Schumaker walk up the second-place finisher in an F1 race and hold his hand out, waiting for the title. Dream on, man - the real world isn't like that.

11) Your refusal to meet halfway just reinforces this. DC2 could just as easily taunt you meaninglessly the same way. "Hey punk, you have a race waiting for you in CA whenever you want one, I'll beat your ass." But he doesn't. Know why? Because he's serious. Meet him halfway. Your turbo ITR is local, you'll get bored... Texas would be a nice road trip anyway. Think about it.
