an orbital buffer should be ok for a novice. when i detailed my exterior, I clayed the entire car, used glaze and sealer ( that concealed a lot of minor scratches) and followed with pure carnuba wax (all Mother's products).

From that pt on, all i have to do is use the glaze/sealer and wax when ever I want some extra shine. I prob won't clay the car again until after winter.
