i was in a similar situation last year. i did a 5 yr co-op program which gave me money to payoff and hookup my car. unfortunetly when my tranny was dying i wasn't done with school yet and didn't want to step up to a new car which would have been a left over 01 lude 5sp when i didn't have a secure fulltime job. so i did the swap instead. if my auto tranny wasn't broken, i wouldn't have an H22 Accord. i would be saving that money for a 2004 6sp coupe, a wrx, or a RSX-S which i would be getting now. instead these are now my top 3 contenders for a new car in summer 2005 time frame.
Very good post. Thanks a lot for the perspective. I think what I'm going to do is save my money, whatever I make extra that doesn't go towards my education, towards a new car when I graduate. If the tranny blows before then, I'll do a swap. Thanks man
