Guys, simma down now... That clunk you hear when it is trying to go into reverse is not really a transmission problem. I bought an 89 Honda Accord with 109K miles on it. It had the auto tranny and was making the same clunk in reverse as you guys are describing. It is not a transmission problem it is a shifter linkage adjustment. The shifter is hookied up to some linkage that goes to the transmission. Over time that linkage can fall out of the proper shift range and cause you some problems. I forget exactly how I fixed mine, but I will take some pics of the linkage and the way to adjust it for you guys.
