on my dsl @ home i connect pppoe on dynamic ip.

my modem/router is set to release/renew my ip every 8 hours. it is also set to assign dhcp addresses to pcs behind randomly instead of xxx.xxx.xxx.1 .2 .3 etc.

i also use my laptop @ work. when i am using it on a customers line to config everything, i get these "pop-up" things that look kinda like IMs that are advertisements. i figure this is from my pc being "port-scanned".

this NEVER happens @ home when the pc is "shadowed" behind the router.

i know i need a firewall for when i'm using it @ work, but don't know which one, so i'm soliciting suggestions.

should i just get the free version of zonealrm or is there some other that is better?

btw: my anti-virus program is http://www.my-etrust.com - they have a firewall as well, but i haven't tried it. :dunno:
