Had same problem with clicking on 97 civic. Sounded more like clacking though. haha.
Anyway, I would definitely have the drums turned when changing the pads due to the click. You don't want to have uneven wear on the new shoes or risk being frustrated if you change and still have clickety clacking by saving a few bucks. Besides that, you shouldn't have to change the rear pads again for quite a while so do it right the first time and you'll get mucho mileage out of them without touching again.
