Valentine-1
I have TWO V-1s!
To explain, when they last updated the V-1 detectors I decided to buy the new one and keep the old one for my wife's car and my hobby car. (They offer "upgrades" from time to time.) No, I have never gotten a ticket while using a Valentine-1. The V-1 + luck. Don't underestimate luck.
I need to point out that on LIDAR (laser) there is nothing much that can save you, even the detector, just pull over as soon as the detector goes off. Fortunately, they don't use LIDAR awfully much in my state. They DO use VASCAR which is impossible to detect, that I counter that by driving an innocuous-looking car in an innocuous color. They'll ALWAYS go after the purple Civic with the Audi HID headlights and the bumblebee muffler.
I use a Valentine "remote display" and have my main unit located in the pocket of a black fabric "visor organizer' with a hole cut in the front for the laser detector. (It's about $5, from Target Stores.)(You NEVER get clocked with laser from behind.) The front and rear radar antennas aren't affected by the thin fabric of the visor organizer. Then I ran the cable down the "A" pillar, under the glovebox and into the console, where I have the remote display tucked. It's virtually invisible from outside of the car, and mostly invisible even inside the car. (To give credit where credit is due, this idea came from the BMW board.)
I don't know why a non-metallic tint would affect RADAR reception. (Metallic tint would definitely affect radar.) With LIDAR you're usually cooked anyway so it doesn't matter. Much. Why not call Valentine and ask? Sometimes Mike Valentine even answers the phone!
