Del Sol earns respect
Here in town, we have this 'famous' ice cream place called Jimmie Cone. I put famous in quotes because I've witnessed people come from PA, VA, WVA, even NJ once to come here.... supposedly we have the best soft serve in the 5-state area. Yet tons of people in Maryland have no idea about this place. Who knows. ANYWAY, the place has always been a hangout for the local juniors and seniors who just got cars, etc. These days, that means the usual ricer crowd, etc.
I was up there Monday night with DelSolGirl, got some chocolate icy ceam in a cone, everything was looking fine. Then this kid pulls up in his black Eclipse GS-T, one of the 2nd gen. with the huge 3000GT-esque wing, the big arc. He revs it up real high so everyone can hear the turbo whine. Then he gets out and pops the hood. Approximately 20 to 30 teens all crowd over, some lookin' inside, most checkin' out the (stock) engine. A little later a stock Volvo 850T shows up, everyone jumps at checkin' out that engine also. My car was parked directly beside this guy - freaker parked so close to my drivers side door I had to do one of those shimmy-shake-and-drops to get in - all you Sol owners must know what I mean.
Anyway, when everyone migrated over the Volvo (parked next to the Eclipse on the left, two spaces from me), DelSolGirl and I decided to head out, since the crowd around the Sol had gone. So we get in, and start the car. Exhaust begins to rumble, the nice light hiss from the intake is audible...heads turn. As I pull away, every single head was turned, most with open mouths. The Del Sol commands RESPECT! LOL.
I don't know if this was even worth the post, but I've been antsy the last couple days. What on earth happened to HAN? To make a short story shorter, the clean Del Sol impressed a bunch of teen kids used to ricy cars, and I had some fantastic ice cream.
