China has a large army...they have a much smaller, and poorer trained, airforce and navy, and they have 12 nuclear ICBMs. China cannot do anything to the US militarily...they could not get enough troops over to America to take it over and if they tried they would be sitting ducks in the ocean for the Pacific fleet.
Besides we are China's #1 consumer...China is not that stupid to bite the hand that is feeding it.
And if China was so great and powerful and the US is "powerless" to stop them as you have clearly implied, why has China not invaded Taiwan? Because they know they cannot win against the US and will loose all they have gained in the international communtity in the past 10 years of modernization.
this is really a matter of opinion, but i think you should ask your history lecturer about china in the past and china now.
as for the question why china didnt invade taiwan, the answer is the same as to why america didnt use the nuclear weapon on north korea during the korean war and now.
