I could've sworn the VTEC came standard with A/C. But I guess not - you learn something new every day. I remember my mechanic being stunned that my 94 Si didn't have A/C or power locks or a low fuel light - totally incredulous. He stared at my interior for a full minute until saying "I'll be damned!" Strange, too, because he knows Hondas/Acuras really well.

Two options: 1) Go without A/C. Hey, it's a targa! Without it you save ~50 pounds and some small amount of parasitic drag on the engine. Maybe 1-2 hp. Maybe. I don't have A/C and I do just fine. In the winter, the hot air defrosts everything in seconds. In the rainiest, wettest weather just lower the rear window an inch or two and the fresh swirling air will clean everything right out. RainX, of course, is always an option. The only truly sucky time is when you get caught out in a rainstorm, and you have to get in your car soaking wet. There is no way without a/c to remove the moisture from your wet clothes... but how often does that happen? Only twice so far this year to me.

Option 2) Forget Honda, they stopped making factory-kit A/C years ago. Junkyard time! As Bakeoff routinely tells us, the world of Del Sols is made infinitely richer by a few timely trips to the junkyards with your tools. With a knowledgeable friend and a Helms, you could probably gut the A/C out of a Del Sol (maybe even a Civic? no idea on the compatibility) in an hour and a half, maybe two. It took me and a Dodge-mechanic friend about two hours by to remove the entire A/C system out of my mom's Caravan to find a bad leak (damned Dodge evaporators!) and then reinstall it. But depending on the parts left in the cars you find, it might take longer or shorter.
