hmmm, guess I should have put up my system:
Pioneer DEH-p6400
Kenwood 800w going to speakers mentioned above
JL Audio 300/2 going to two Kicker Comp VR 12's (4ohm)

this isn't sony and jensen bullshit but then again, its not top of the line, either.

so basiclly I want something sub $500

Not to be retarded, but is the CD lens relatively clean? (I assume we're talking CDs)
To answer your question though, I'd try the Alpine CDA-7998.... No Amps 105dB S/N ratio. Single DIN chassis; oversized, motorized faceplate.
$799 @ Crutchfield.
Personally, I don't have that kind of money.
the HU is about a year old, but I haven't cleaned the lens. Still, the S/N is only 93dB or so, so that alpine unit is very ideal.

unfortunatly, I don't want to spend almost half as much money I put into my system just on the headunit. Although I'd love to.....

Alpine is definitely good. It all depends on how much you're looking to spend, but you could get a good alpine head unit with front/rear/sub preamp outputs for around 200 brand new on ebay. I'd definitely recommend Alpine. Although, I can't say anything bad about Eclipse. I had an Eclipse headunit in the Prelude I sold.
Yeah, 90% people out there swear to Alpine, but I'm a little curious how many of them are just agreeing blindly.

I think I'll end up going to the local high-end stereo shop and have a peak at shit. I just wanted to get some ideas before I researched it, and then take it to the shop.

they match prices
