no no no... drain everything, then unhook all cables and wires connecting the engine/tranny to the rest of the car. Leave the shift linkage attached to the tranny but diconnect it from the shifter. unbolt the top of the shocks/springs and the upper control arms. Now only 8 bolts are holding the front clip in. drop those out and you can lift the body away from teh subframe and then can have free access to the tranny.
