christians would use the fish symbol back in the day when they were being persecuted by the romans for there religious beliefs. if someone wanted to see if the other person was a christian. they would make an sort of semi-circle on the ground with there sandal or foot. if the other person was a christian they would respond with the same gesture only in the opposite direction. the end result would be a fish like shape on the ground.
when i first saw the fish symbols on cars i thought it was evolutionists making fun of christians, but this is not so. the christians used the fish symbol long before darwin came up with the idea of evolution/natural selection. no...i'm not a religious freak by any means (not that there's anything wrong with that).

btw, darwin didn't believe we came from apes. his study was about micro-evolution, not macro-evolution.
