It might - but definitely use Honda's ATF. I've heard many others say that Dexron/Mercon is not compatible. You might also try one of the anti-slipping transmission treatments.... they're mostly snake oil, but I've heard people have had limited success with them.
Otherwise, I'm sure you won't have a hard time finding a used transmission in a junkyard. I'm not a big fan of rebuilds only because I've never had luck with them.... the car just never drives the same with a rebuilt tranny.
