'93 - '99 civic is a shock, not strut. Struts damp motion AND locate the suspension top mount, determining instant roll center location, and absorbing lateral forces of the car's suspension. Struts must be designed much stronger and have careful attention paid to failure mode when designed.

The Civic/ Integra set up in front is just a fancy shock for packaging reasons.

Shocks by definition only have forces working axially on them, and only dampen suspension motion.
