that doesn't sound right dood. he should not have impounded your vehicle unless you were acting in a reckless manner or were pulled over for another reason. what does it say on the ticket that you were issued? was it this?

VA code § 46.2-1049. Exhaust system in good working order.

according to VA state law, the same penalty should be applied uniformly throughout the commonwealth. a clerk or magistrate may not impose a fine and cost different in any way.

the officer who chose to impound your car used his own judgement to do so. not all cars with aftermarket exhaust in VA get impounded. imo, this is bs and should be taken to court. at worst you should have been fined $30 with a $42 processing fee.

look into the above VA code, it's bs to begin with but very extreme and rare to have your car impounded. good luck.
