Default My Accord Shifts Harshly...

Hey,
I have a 1995 Honda Accord EX-V6. It has about 140,000 miles on it, and its starting to shift harshly. Its an automatic, and when it changes gears the car will jolt a little. It jolts alot if I have to accelerate quickly (which I have to do a lot because where I live people drive like crazy). I have heard that this is a known problem in '95 accords, and can be fixed by just adding a conditioner to the automatic transmission fluid. I was wondering if anyone else on this message board had the same type of problem. Thanks.

Wow--140k, this would be a great time to install some completely new fluid and a new filter. If you haven't done this I'd try that before anything else. Ask around--you sould be able to find a local mechanic/tranny shop that will do this for $50-150.00

The reason why I'd recommend a tranny shop you trust is they can look for damage or failure while doing the change out. Unless you are a tranny guy--you may miss some signs of wear.

I wouldn't cheap out--find the best local tranny guy and take it from there. With luck, it's just some retuin spiff-up needs.

Try going to some place and getting your throttle body cleaned. Also as MrChad mentioned, flusing your Auto Tranny fluid might help. I did mine at 45,000 miles, even though I probably didn't need to.

how long has it been since you went fro a full tune up????

meaning fluids, oil plugs all that shiat???

i would suggest when you change your tranny fluid use synthetic stuff it makes for smoother shifting and quiter shifting but that is all up to you

it is normal...and I don't think accord has a filter for transmission fluid.
I hated my car for that same reason, I have never driven a car with such bad transmission... and my car is 96 with 77K on it.
The transmission according to several mechanics (both dealer and independent) is very jerky and lazy and is considered normal. You get what you pay for...
