Default How about some tips for better MPG's on the CL's

Hello All,

I have a '98 CL 4-cyl 2.3L. Got 128000 miles on it. Did a general tuneup when I bought the car at 70K.
My questions is: What could we do to our cars to make them more Efficient? in leiu of losing extra HP or not. With the current crazy Gas prices. my car gets only about 22 mpg. about 30% city 70& highway (@80mph average).

How can I make my car a little more economical? Tune it up again? what you guys think? What is the best Bang for the buck when it comes to getting better milage? Thanks for any posts. =)

Regrads,
Marek

I would tune it up again since it probably needs some vital things after being neglected for that many miles.

My dad has the same car and he get much better gas mileage than that, so you most likely just need a full tuneup.

No no my car is completely stock, i think i got to replace the air filter, spark plugs, and maybe fuel filter if i can get to it....

Does anybody know about setting up timing for beffer fuel economy but worse performance? like a gap for spark firing, make it smaller or bigger ..etc.... anyone... anyone... Bueller... Bueller... heh =)

Check this link for the car specs and the MPG estimate from the EPA. It sounds like you are getting what you should for MPG.

I would do the normal stuff and make sure tires are full etc. Ever since gas went up, I've really started just driving with traffic instead of trying to pass everyone and I get much better gas mileage. They say that if you drive 55 instead of 65mph, you'll get 15% better MPG. If you are driving 80mph, you are really eating through the gas (especially with the A/C on and with a headwind going up hill in the winter time...).

dont do 80 on the highway.. i know you dont want to hear it but by driving 65 or even 70 you'll prolly increase your mileage 3-4 mpg
