I don't know about now, but sony used to suck. To be safe I would look at Alpine or Panasonic.

yeah i agree sony suck when it comes to car speakers in general. but i am not sure how suck they are when it comes to headunit.
yeah i dont want nothing crazy just a good but not the best replacement HU for my car. the main reason i want to replace the unit is because i wanna be able to play mp3s and TRAC3plus music files.

I've had one of the top of the line Sony head units(cdx-m9900) for about a year now. I've had no problems or complaints with mine and it looks cool with the tv monitor screen.

for the money go with a kenwood or alpine low end. they will last you for at least five years. I have had many headunits and my Kenwood outlived them all. Sony IMO is the worst of the well known brands excluding the audiovox and other off names. I installed for a number of years and the majority of the headunits that we replaced were Sony and Jvc. They both are terrible.

I agree about JVC, they're not what they used to be. We got a shippment of KD-G210's in, id say half turned out defective upon install.

Had my panasonic for over 5 years now and no troubles at all. still works like a champ. However, if you want to play Trac3Plus I think that is sony proprietary compression so you are stuck with that. I woudl suggest just gettin a lower end alpine or panasonic caplable of playing mp3s and ditch sony all together.
