Default 6th gen: anyone done/seen this?

Just a quick question. I know many people around here cut out their upper grill and replace it with mesh, or swap them with Si/CTR style grills. For those of you that kept yours stock, has anyone ever painted the black internal parts to match the color of your car? I know the 7th gen civics come like this stock, and I was curious how it would look on a 6th gen. Anyone ever seen it or even better done it themselves?

I agree. It looks very cheap. I suggest putting some mesh in but if you want to paint it sand the plastic first so the paint will stick. adhesion promotor helps too.

That reminds me of the days when folks with 5th gens would paint the center grill on the bumper to color match the rest of the car. Not a pretty sight...

I like the look of the stock grill, but my has kind of faded a little bit...I was thinking about just painting it flat black, but I was curious how it would look if it was painted the color of the car. I don't want to leave it how it is because its getting uglier by the day, so I guess I'll have to go with black.

any suggestions on how to do it? Do I sand? How many coats of paint? Do I use clear coat? How many coats of that? I was thinking 3 coats should be good...but don't know about the clear coat. You guys got any ideas?

Remove the grill, sand it down with some 400 grit sandpaper (you don't have to remove the paint, just rough enough so that the primer would adhere to it).

Clean it off and remove all particles off the piece. Primer it with about 2 coats. Sand and clean again. Paint it with about 3 coats. Clearcoat it with about 2 coats.

For best results, in between coats, wait about 15-20mins. before applying additional coats. I know it's tempting to get the job done quickly but this leads to horrible looking paint.
