Default Running axle without dynamic damper Q..

When I did my left axle on my 92 4dr LX 5 speed, Autozone gave me an axle without a dynamic damper. They said it would work, the rebuilders must have changed and eliminated it.

Would this cause the differential bearing to fail?

There's a lot of play in the bearing up and down and it makes one hell of a clunk when turning right and hitting a bump (pulling into a driveway that's raised above the road surface).

I just purchased axles minus the dampers too. What did you end up doing? It looks like you can tear them apart and insert the damper but it seems a shame to tear apart a perfectly good axle!

Are you talking about the black rubber counter weight that is attached to the axle?

Agreed. My Gator stage 2's didn't come with them as well as every other "rebuilt" axle I have purchased before that.

The differential problem is probably unrelated. Stray away from autozone axles, though. They are complete shit. You are probably experiencing a blown CV joint.

What would make Autozone axles inferior? Anybody have any problems with them?

They take old busted axles, put a new boot on, and then sell them back to the customer. They don't even look at the CV joint, which is usually blown or about to blow out so you can expect some gnarly shaking within a few hundred miles. They are lifetime warranty, but having to change out the axles every few months because they keep failing gets old really quickly. Trust me, I have been through 3 sets of shitty Autozone axles and finally decided to do it right and get some Gator axles.

Yeah, some people get lucky with them. I don't, however. I had three sets of Autozone axles have CV joint failure within 2 years so I guess my luck just sucks.
