Autocross evens (practice) that don't take all day?
I'm a family man and I don't have all day to spend at an SCCA Solo2 event very often. Is there anything else I can practice with my car doing autox-like stuff safely?
I mean something like, use an old parking lot where no body is around, throw around some cones, and do my own practice runs for about an hour, then clean up and go home? |
In most cases you would be tresspassing if you did that. And if something bad would happen (say flip your car or you damage something) you would be fully liable. Whereas if you damaged something under SCCA you would be mostlikely covered with SCCA's insurance.
Problem is you live out in CA too. Most of their events are all day things. Whereas here I know a couple of places I'm out by lunch. And I have a family too. |
Thanks... you seem to be the only autox'er around these forums.
Looks like it's back to karting for me cuz it only takes an hour or two. |
You have to realize that I know what it's like to have a family AND try to be an autocrosser too. You have to spend time with the family in order to get time away to have fun with hobbies :)
The times I got to autocrosses which are all day I try to spend more quality time before or after the autocross with my wife AND then family :) |

Depends on what you mean by all day with my club I can get all my runs in and my worker assigment and be out of there sometime around 2 to 3 o clock. Some regions will run all your runs in one group and you are done after doing your worker assigment, in thoose events I am out of there by noon. |
you can always talk with the event chairman, and see if you can help with tech, course setup, or whatever else they need. Thats what I do when I have to work the night of an event.
