True, but if you were a country trying to collapse another countrys economy then the ends justify the means. Create a couple billion in bad coins then flood them into circulation and it tosses things out of whack with a ripple effect. Continued flooding would only enhance that.
It would be a more reliable way because after all...who would counterfeit coins?
