what's up mtb crew?

I'm looking to join the crew. Well, I have a bike. It's an old specialized that was given to me by my father in law. I just plan on doing some light trail stuff, take my kid out and about, that kind of thing. Anyway, the bike has been sitting outside for a couple of years, what do I need to look at replacing to make sure nothing breaks on me. I kinda figured a new chain, new brake/shifter lines, maybe a new derailleur?

i can't help you with what to replace and not to hijack, but...

the bolt that keeps the crank arm to the chain wheel thing? i have no idea what the parts are called.

In your situation I would take it to the shop and ask them to check. It would suck to have a chain break or a brake cable snap :o At least the shop can tell you what needs or dont need replacing. Having a bike sit outside is not good for the chain / cable.

If not, replace all the cables and the chain. If the derailleur looks good, just put some lube on there.

my first thought...

"why'd you instragram my picture?" :squint:

yeh, that bolt. i don't know if i should just bring it somewhere to get fixed or if i can just buy the part on nashbar and replace it myself.

Are you not tightening it? Throw some blue locktite on there :o

i tighten it with a ratchet and it gets loose in less than a half mile.

is gluing it really the best option? lol

blue loctite isn't glue, it just keeps it from coming loose on its own.

If loctite doesnt work, might have to replace that bolt or bottom bracket. :o
