I guess he solved the issue of being able to open the gullwing doors, just make the car taller than anything else!!

Actually, my dad back in the 60's owned a Mercedes Gullwing. Eventually, he got so pissed off at having to open that thing in regular parking spots, and having to work on it every other weekend, he sold it for $27K. Don't get me wrong, back in the 60's, that was a lot, but the worth of that thing now...

Ahhh...the 300SL. These days, those trade hands in private sales only - almost never through auction - and the average price is around $200,000. A little less for the open-topped roadsters (w/o gullwings). They made them from '53 to '64 - what year was your dad's? What a beautiful classic.....

At Barrett Jackson, one sold for $600,000 after undergoing a 4-year, $250,000 restoration. They said the car was better than new.

Insane.

BTW that 4x4 DeLorean is the goofiest thing I have ever seen.

And "restoring" a DeLorean involves banging out the dents. The body is stainless steel so it won't rust and I don't remember there ever being any paint on it.

The interior is another story. :joshers:
