Default Setting up a network in XP

I am trying to setup a network between my desktop and my laptop. I've have done it a million times before and it was so simple, now when I do it, it doesn't work. Both computers are plugged into the HUB and both have internet access. However when I go into My Network Places, the other computer will not show up and I can not transfer files between them. Anyone have any ideas?

yes, My Shared Folder, and I made another folder accessible. If I go to "View Workgroup Computers" on either computer, the other does not show up. And yes they are both in the same workgroup.
