here is a big pile of horse shit:
one of my jackass customers decides 41 days after he quit me that he wants to come back, well thats fine, thats great, (a little annoyed he didnt just pay the 8 dollars and stick around, but what are you gonna do)
anyway, heres the reply from my registrar with regards to renewing his domain name:
Hello,
It can be renewed here, but because it's in redemption period, the cost for renewal will be exhorbitant.
The domain expired and has since been placed in a Redemption Period by the Central Registry. Because of a new policy implemented by ICANN and the Central Registry, once we release a domain (40 days after expiration), the Central Registry will hold it for another 35 days.
In order to process the Redemption Period claim, please
send a check or money order for $185 (credit card payment is not accepted for Redemption Period domains) made payable to Intercosmos Media Group, Inc.
Mail to:
Billing Department
Intercosmos Media Group, Inc.
650 Poydras Street, Suite 1150
New Orleans, Louisiana 70130
USA
There is a $10 fee for check or money order payments that must be included in the check or money order amount ($175 + $10). Please be sure to include your directNIC username, as well as the domain name in question. We will then proceed to make the redemption period claim and inform you when the domain is returned to your account.
If you wish to start the procedures to regain control of the domain, please let us know. Otherwise, you will need to wait until the Central Registry releases the domain.

he has to pay $185 if he wants that name back, or he has to wait 35 days and pray he can get it back. i convinced him to choose a new name, he really doesnt need the old one. if he did he should have payed to retain it.
