dipstick
my accord dipstick has two dots on it, one less than an inch higher than the other. would those be the add/full marks? on a toyota the add full marks are clearly labeled in words.
sorry for such a n00b question, I just started getting into cars when i started driving. oil looks kinda like this on my dipstick http://astro.temple.edu/~sparta/pics/untitled.jpg is that too much? |
hmm, I'm pretty sure the top hole is full.... so you look like your dipstick has about twice the amount of hair it should have.
|
thats too much oil. make sure, you have turned off the engine, wiped off the initial oil on the stick and then check again for the proper level. the bottom hole is the minimum, the top is the full marker. its about a quart of oil to go from the bottom to top hole.

WAY TOO MUCH OIL! Drain a little bit out man. You don't wanna go above the full mark.

uh oh. that means ill have to drive it about 5 miles to my friend's house, where he has an oil pan and a ramp. is it ok to drive with too much oil for 5 miles? or should i not even start the engine?
|
crap, there's mobil 1 in it. if i drain it out, can i save it?
|
Dude... you're gonna lose like... 4 dollars. I wouldn't worry.
Reusing motor oil is pretty low on the "Smart things to do with your car" list... How long have you had this oil, anyways? You can drive a little bit. Just don't think it's OK to drive everywhere. Did you put this oil in, or was it some people at a oil change station? ALSO: Check your oil again... did you take out and wipe the dipstick BEFORE putting it back in to take the reading? |
oil's relatively new, a cousin was here on thursday and put it in. i guess he thought yellow was the dipstick, cause in toyota it is. anywho, the oil is only 3 days old.
i pulled it out, wiped, checked about 5 times. all the same. guess ill creep over to my friend's house at 5pm today. |
