Default Call or Don't Call???

I'm waiting to here back from this job I applied for, however, the job is about 6 hours north of me. They closed the listing for the position yesterday, the 23rd, and said they would review resumes then. Should I call them and tell them I'll be in the area next Monday and would like to meet for an interview?? I don't want to sound pushy, but it's hard to get up there without some serious planning. I only have one vacation day left to take and this weekend would be great to go up there. What should I do? Should I just hold my breath and wait for them to contact me or try to set up an Appt. for when I'm up there??

call today but make sure you ask to speak with the supervisor of the department that you'd work with.

nah ask to speak with (in my case - the art director or creative director of the design department) a head of a department.

HR won't get you shit. If you speak to the head of a department, they will remember

Just say your following up on the resume you sent and are still interested in the position. Have a couple questions about the position ready

talking to HR is pointless. and they're assholes to boot.

there is typically a hiring manager at a company, and they are almost always NOT a employee of HR...but rather the dept looking to hire. it would not go for a good team dynamic if people were just stuffed into a dept together.
