Yeah.. Haix is showing about $257 (with a heat resistant sole.. once again, potential dual purpose), and 5.11 is showing $150ish without the chem resistance (which isnt a requirement but is an added bonus in my book)

For a good pair of safety boots, plan to spend >$200.

Trust and believe that if you go cheap, you are likely to regret it. Try them on at the end of the day, as your feet swell over the course of the day. Wear socks similar to what you plan to wear to work, if you use orthotics or off the shelf supports, take them with you and try boots with them in place.

Bates all the way. I wear my combat ones from back in 05 whenever Im doing construction work on the side. I can wear em for 18 hours a day and they're still comfy as hell.

i like my danner's. had them for almost two years now in all kinds of shitty weather/terrain and they're just now starting to fall apart. break in only took a few days of walking around in them. i spent ~$195 for them in japan, which is about $10 cheaper than i can find them here on base.

my buddy has a pair of oakleys and swears by them. i'd give them a shot if they werent unauthorized in uniform.

Ended up going 5.11's.

http://www.511tactical.com/browse/Ho...:10706/I/12003

Came with a free nifty boot knife too. Not sure what I'll use it for but might as well have it down there, can hardly notice. I also bought a EMS knife with a built in window punch and seat belt cutter.

Gonna send in for my free socks. I wanna buy some work socks but don't wanna drop $20 on 4 pair without knowing I'll like them, so here's one way of knocking a brand off the list (5.11).

Been wearing them for almost 5 hours now, no problems. I start work Monday from 0800-2400.

0000 signifies starting at midnight, when 2400 is ending at midnight.. no?

I guess that's the difference between your job and mine. In my job, where I have to type reports n' shit...it's always 0000 hrs.

I could have just sent you my black leather, steel toes. They're also insulated for cold weather and are comfy as hell.
