So I'm trying to make a movie/video of family and friends/random dumbass-ness/good old stuff. I have tried the Windows Live Movie Maker that came with my laptop. Its okay, but Im looking for better. Is there anything free that is better out there? (and somewhat easy to use...im a tech dummy)

What else do you need? Movie Maker is pretty good for simple stuff.

I have heard of this, but from shady sources....no pun intended. I just suck with computers. They guy said I could Google "pirate bay" i think it was, but never have done it in fear I would fuck up my comp.

It should be good to go I get stuff from there all the time as well as others, but like Will said WMM should work fine. I have done 30 minute vids on it and they came out great. You can't do color correction or complicated overlays and certain fades but you can do quite a bit with it.

The place it sucks is compression when you are trying to lower a files overall size. You kind of have to do it in multiple steps and it's a pain.

It may be that Im just not smart enough for it, I have heard there are pretty idiot proof set ups out there. I have done 2-3 min vids so far on Movie Maker, but they seem so generic. Maybe im just shooting to high in expectation for it all.

What are you trying to accomplish. Movie Maker has "star wash"...thats all you need to transition scenes :o
