Noway I'm paying that much for an apple product!

meh

i know nothing about the Kindle. does that require you to subscribe to a data plan, too? either way, it'll make money b/c it's an Apple :(

total waste of money

its an oversized iphone without the phone or camera. it runs on a iphone OS. if i buy a tablet i want it fully functional, not a phone OS. i mean the iphone OS is nice and all but this thing is like 700 bucks if you want 3G on it and it isnt even a full fledged OS

Kindle is wreaking havoc on traditional book sellers. The Amazon device is looking to put Borders out of business within 2 years at it's current pace.

Kindle runs on eInk, so it's not your traditional display. Since it's not backlit, the Kindle's battery lasts up to 15 days on a single charge. (w. wifi / 3g disabled).

Kindle does have networking abilities (for free), but again, it's not a web surfing powerhouse. It's more than enough to get you to buy a book and check email.

No data plan required. You can get the WiFi only model and if you want a 3G model of the same size storage it is $130 more. With the 3G model, you can opt for a data plan but there is no contract, you just pay month to month. $15 for 250 MB or $30 for unlimited data for the entire month. WiFi is free to use obviously and apparently AT&T is establishing a wide network of WiFi hotspots that iPad owners will be allowed to use for free as well.

I think it is a really cool device. It was never meant to have all the functionality of a laptop, but rather to bridge the gap between a laptop and an iPhone. It's good for people that are not at a computer all day and move about a lot but don't feel like carrying around a laptop everywhere. It also has a lot of cool features and gaming potential. It syncs up with iTunes just like the iPhone so it makes bringing all your multimedia with you really simple. Plus, there is a lot of potential for some really cool accessories like a wireless webcam that you can just set down next to it and have it work via bluetooth and stuff like that.
