I'm thinking that he's asking for a model type. TV's these days are very different.

not like the old days where the picture was all the same with the major differences being what year it was made

i assume it's an lcd, i don't think there are many 42" plasmas", if any at all

I'm in serious need for a lcd/plasma/led tv. my status quo is bottoming out as long as i still entertain guests with my 27" CRT.

Sure there are...and panasonic makes bomb plasmas.
