Post Mormon v.Chanc
Eh, Cult = Dramatic word to describe a religion (usually one you don't like).
From Websters 2003:
Cult: n, from the Latin cultus, care, cultivation. 1. a system of religious worship or ritual. 2. devoted attachment to a person, principle, etc. 3. a sect
Religion: n, from the Latin religio, holiness. 1. belief in and worship of God or gods. 2. a specific system of belief, worship, etc., often involving a code of ethics.
The definition of religion and cult are nearly the same. If your religion has any ceremonies at all, and you are devout to that religion, you automatically fit into the definition of cult. I guess Christianity and Islam are cults too. Just sayin.

No... But I've seen/heard reports on the shit that some women have had to go through to break away from the Mormon church. And yes, it sounded like they were running from a cult.
h:
Not saying the Mormon church as a whole, but maybe certain congregations have gone too far trying to keep members in.
Edit: Ok... The word cult seems to not be the right word. Maybe running from crazy religious nuts is a better way to put it.

This might actually be true for some of the polygamist sects but not for mainstream Mormonism. It's like saying Muslims are terrorists and suicide bombers when only a very small portion are extremists and resort to violence and killing. The members of that postmormon.org sound like they're ex-members of the mainstream Mormon church, not some polygamist sect living out in the desert.
I was just thinking that the people you know are making the church look like the bad guy to make themselves feel better.

Religion = cult with large following
If its the true LDS church, I have a hard time seeing it also.
LDS wants devoted believers to spread the word... if you're half assing it and not following the beliefs and living a non-LDS lifestyle, they don't want you representing them.
