Photos and photoshop guys quick easy question

My dad needs help with a picture someone took of him at his jobs award banquet. The image size from what paint attributes is saying is Width - 23.75 and Height - 18.75 I'm guessing they made the picture extra long because there's 4 of them standing in the pic and the photographer sucked.

He wants to make the picture a 8x10 so he can put it in a frame. Is it possible to do that in photoshop and if so, how would i go about doing that. I can make the image 10in long it seems but it ends up about 5 1/2 inches high. So when we go to print it, there's that white border at the bottom. I'm trying to save him the money from going to CVS and having them do it.

Thanks

if he wants it 8 by 7 and its coming out 10 by 5.5.... you'll have to crop the sides. and either change the dpi or reduce the resolution

Create a 8x7 blank canvas...and paste the image on there. Resize, reposition, crop...whatever you wanna do :o

you're gonna be printing out the picture. for print 72 dpi is the minimum.. catalogs print at 200-300 dpi

:werd: When creating the new canvas, set it at 300 dpi. I generally do that to every photo I print.
