Now before you answer these questions, don't bother, they're rhetorical. The solution to your hypothetical scenario is to tell your kid that if in the unlikely event they come across a gun, don't touch it.

This smacks of turning your kids into living breathing expressions of your personal politics. Let them grow up before they have to worry about whether they want to follow in Charlie Heston's footsteps.
What the fuck are you ranting about? No one started talking about NRA, political views, etc until you. We're talking about SAFETY and EDUCATION. One can know how to be safe using guns and educated about them without actually wanting to know about them.

If he's going to come into a decent, level headed discussion and start throwing around his liberal views and talking shit about NRA, preaching politics to children, etc, all of which had nothing to do with the conversion and then whine about name calling after he threw out the first one then I'm going to point out his idiotic hypocrisy.

I too put hands on a .22 on a range when I was a kid, more like maybe 12 or 14 or so but a kid nonetheless. Nobody ever tried to brainwash me about legal rights to own firearms and bring politics in to it. Nobody tried to encourage my enthusiasm for guns either. I made up my own mind and came to my own conclusion.

Even if my hypothetical kid hypothetically decided after careful consideration that they wanted to build an arsenal in his/her basement the likes of which hasn't been seen since Tremors 2, then by all means they can go ahead and do it. I wouldn't like it but if they gave me a cogent explanation of their reasoning, I'd accept it. Hypothetically of course. Look at this cool shit here!

I'd have similar reservations I voiced earlier if the OP was about packing up the VW van and dragging one's 5 year-old cross country going to Phish shows and staging sit-ins at supermarkets until they serve only tofu-based meat replacement products in place of all meat. Personal politics should be left free to develop without the poking and prodding of enthusiastically biased parents.

I have no great love for Hillary or Obama. But go ahead let's call each other names for a while longer.
That's funny, my wife's little brother was taking deer at less than 10 years of age with either a .243 or a 20ga. I guess his parents are irresponsible huh.

For the record, they're democrats and couldn't really care less about politics for the most part.

 I just read that bullshit man that's funny. the whole let your kids freely develop by hiding point of views you don't agree with. I've learned not to bother with people like you who are so full of yourselves you can't even see how utterly hypocritical you are. you are so high up on your pedestal you can't even see, let alone hear anyone else.

I will start him in on gun safety and supervised handling aroud 5 or 6. the firearm will be used and viewed as a tool not a weapon. used for hunting and for sport and is at home for safety. the home safety part will be taught later on as they understand why that would be needed. I agree that having guns in the home and not teachinf children about them is unsafe and irresponsible .
