They need to find the one tastiest cow ever, and clone that one cow so every cow is that cow.

I'm worried about the immune systems of the animals and how having a whole bunch of them with the same immune system could be a problem.. say they are succeptible to getting something, all the cloned animals get it, then instead of being some stupid one cow dying by some random virus we have an outbreak and creation of some new super-virus

The next improvment to beef, is when it comes with a girl to cook it, bring you a beer, give you a blow job, and leave.

I'm pretty sure they're working with an optimal gene pool...

So if they clone lets say five cows out of each breed and only those five cows (example only) then those cows have the same genetic strengths and weaknesses.

So what happens in 20 years when those are most the cows going to market and they are wiped out with the same disease attacking the same genetic weakness?

Just a what if scenario.

I dont know specifically about cows but I do know for genetically engineered grains they store thousands of dna samples for continual research. I guess they would do something similar for livestock...

Jokey remarks aside, what I get from actually reading the article they're not actually cloning specific cows for purposes of homogenizing the gene pool (i.e. all our food supplies are from the same 5 cow "copies").

Basically it's a technique for isolating specific traits found in certain individuals for breeding with a wider selection of other individuals to come up with more variations. So instead of say one cow has some particular trait and only being able to reproduce a few times, they clone that one cow 10 times and breed the clones with 10 different bulls, see which offspring exhibit the desired traits, breed those with some other combos, and on down the line. It's just that they're using cloning to do the selective breeding more efficiently.

I'll skip out from trying to explain the ethical/moral issues. That stuff is thorny. h:
