holy crap... she was 25...and she already had a 5yr old, 3yr old, 2yr old AND an 8month old infant?!!?!?! holy crap.

RIP to the poor children victimized by their irresponsible mother no amount of depression justifies suicide and murder of innocent children

All four of those women were found innocent by reason of insanity. Yates initially was convicted of capital murder, but that verdict was overturned on appeal.

Insanity my arse. The insanity plea is nothing but a legal loophole for people not to take responsibility for their actions. In essence, the loophole almost endorses the behavior since people can dodge serious punishment. I may be exaggerating a bit, but then am I really? You be the judge.

I've never really understood the insanity plea. Sure, they may be insane, but isn't that just more reason to keep them out of the general population? Maybe with treatment they MIGHT go back to being normal and MIGHT not kill again, but is it really worth the risk?

I can understand mitigating circumstances -- like you walked in on your wife with another man and in the heat of the moment killed somebody -- but not getting off on premeditated murder because you were insane "at the time."
