lets talk DVD recorders

Looking for one with upscaling, built in tuner for recording tv programs, HDMI output and must actually work...would also like DVD+/- R/RW as well as RAM disc capabilities but r and rw +/- is fine

I got one today made by Samsung and the thing is a piece of shit, keeps clipping at both 720 and 1080i despite being output to HDMI. It gets so bad it goes blue screen on me and I couldn't play a single disc for more than 5 minutes before it clipped out on me. Going back to return it tomorrow so what should I be looking at or is there a site that gives decent reliable reviews on them?

Well the more important is recorder, the upscaling is a bonust that I can live with or without, just if it has it then it damn well better work as expected.

you want a standalone upscaling DVD recorder?

WE tech geeks either use our PC for streaming, processing, and recording only....we don't believe in those 1 click solution :oh:

How much are you looking to spend (No im not a sales guy)? I am going to be replacing my pro-DVD burner (stand alone) with an HD unit (I run a sports broadcasting facility). Ill be going to NAB on the 19th and I can look for low priced pro gear if you would like. All the stands I visit usually have something amazing for great prices (prices in perspective of quality). This is the right time of year for buying broadcast gear.

So Im really asking, is this for work or play-and what is your price range?

Thats gonna be a LONG time brotha. My opinion? Current formats of HD are just the Laserdisk before the DVD. They are gonna find ways to transmit larger amounts of bandwidth using less satellite and encoding real estate in the next 5-9 years. Thats when a standard will be set.
