Default Anyone getting their MBA?

I just finished a book (paths to power). Basically, a BS is almost a prerequisite now for a decent job, and the majority of corner employees now have MBAs. Are you planning to get yours? How is it at your company, is it a common requirement now for advancements?

im torn on this subject....having an MBA will never hurt but it doesn't *always* pay off. climbing the ladder depends on many factors, not just your pedigree.

most of my coworkers have MBAs from places like harvard business school, stanford, wharton, kellogg, cal, etc. sometimes i feel like i'm at a disadvantage and i have to work twice as hard for credibility. with that said, it's something i want to pursue h:

what field are you in, if you dont mind me asking?

BTW, the majority of the top business leaders from the last century had their MBA from Havard School of Business. (just something interesting I remember from the book)

if you're going to do it, do it right and get it from a well known university that is accredited.

I currently know 6people with MBA. 1 from UC Berkeley and the rest from Cal State Riverside. Only the 1 that got his MBA from UCB has climbed the ladder. He is very high up actually.

The other 5, still make about the same amount of money before they got the MBA. It's been about 5 years since each of them got the MBA.

I don't wanna move over to the east just for the MBA (job issue for one, housing another)

yeh, from all that I've read, the MBA is a good tool to climb the ladder nowadays. I don't know how true that is in the real world, hence the thread.

Either way though, I'll get it, sooner or later.

Maybe the person that went to UCB is also more motivated?

maybe. i've known all 6 for approximately the same time.

i wouldn't say one is more motivated than the others.

the guy that went to UCB did go to UCDavis first to try and get a PhD in economics but he dropped out of that after 6months.

my point was that just having a MBA doesn't help you climb any ladders
