Default Optical Help

I just got my optical cable in for my computer to hook up my home theater.
I turned it on and found that I cannot control the volume of the optical from my computer at all.

I have volume controls on my keyboard and they don't work either. Is there a setting to set up all my volume controls to control the optical?

I found a program so when you push a button and scroll, you can adjust the volume. I set it to adjust the Wave volume.

Still a pain but whatever.
I need a program that will monitor the main volume and will adjust the Wave volume at the same time.

My networking still isn't working. I even turned it back onto simple file sharing. Whatever, I don't care right now.

Keep the wave volume all the way up, and adjust the main volume with your software. And what type of sound card?

The main volume does not effect the wave volume...
I have no extra sound card. My mobo came with 5.1 and optical features.

Kind of the point of a line out on a sound card like that. It's pretty much a fixed volume.
